What Purview DSPM for AI does

Microsoft Purview Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for AI is Microsoft's service for seeing and controlling how data is used with AI apps. It runs in the Microsoft Purview portal and reuses Purview's data loss prevention, sensitivity labels, audit and insider risk tools. The docs describe reports and an activity explorer for AI interactions, one-click policies that warn or block users from pasting sensitive data into third-party generative AI sites, and a weekly data risk assessment for oversharing in SharePoint. Third-party AI sites need devices onboarded to Purview, and visit discovery uses the Purview browser extension. The classic DSPM for AI has been replaced by a newer DSPM version. It is closed source, and AI apps other than Microsoft 365 Copilot need pay-as-you-go billing.
